Are there any movies with a laugh track?
I understand that canned laughter is mostly added to sitcoms in order to induce laughter at the right moment (e.g. since the viewer isn't watching with a crowd of people).
Have there been any theatrically-released movies that were made with a laugh track?
Top Answer/Comment:
In a word, no. There don't appear to be any theatrically-released films that contain a natural 'laugh track'.
There are obviously exceptions to this general rule;
Used for parody:
- Seinfeld parody in Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World
- The DVDs of Epic Movie and Date Movie come with an optional laughter track.
- Used for emphasis in The Big Short
Used for surrealism:
- Natural Born Killers
- Inland Empire ('Rabbits' sequence)
- Requiem for a Dream
Note that all of these are 'segments', rather than used throughout the film.
