Repair mirror folder synchronization mode in Google Drive for desktop

Alternative question: How can Google Drive mirror folder be moved to the other path?

Problem which occurs in multiple cases, but especially after replacing SSD while keeping same disk letter: in Mirror files mode (not Stream files), the sync folder is correctly opened from Preferences -> Google Drive -> (Mirror files) -> Access files from a folder on your computer link, but manual folder changes are not propagated or visible in the UI. Specific sign of malfunction is that no special icon is applied to the folder, which previously had special icon.
How can sync be repaired without downloading again all the GD contents and path change?

Switch to Stream files, restart GD, and switch back to Mirror files.
Be careful not to miss Change folder location in the pop-up dialog to replace unrelated default folder with the one previously used for sync.

Files which got out of sync were not replaced for me, but renamed with prev_name (1).ext, though this specific part need an additional confirmation before backups of critical files can be safely skipped during this switch.

turn off GD
move previous sync folder
on the next start, GD will auto popup to select new folder}
